EVENTS & PROGRAMS
Red Out for Sickle Cell
Bringing awareness to issues although they may not be our own is important, and our Red Out for Sickle Cell does just that. Sickle Cell Anemia is an issue several struggle with so we hold a tabling event and have students wear red in support of those who have it. Our trifold has information to expose others to the matter and we also hand out cards that has information about the matter. This program aims to bring the community together while also shedding light on an international problem.
Delta Deposition
In partnership with TAMU Round Table Talks , Delta Deposition offers a chance for students to come out and learn more about the criminal justice system. Unfortunately, black women have been mistreated by the justice system a countless amount of times and our event aims at educating others on this matter. An hour-long presentation is given from our members where a discussion is fostered about different women from our history.
Delta Meet and Greet
The first impression is a lasting impression! Omicron Omega holds an annual Meet and Greet for freshmen and transfer students to give them a positive first impression of Texas A&M and Bryan/College Station. We play "get-to-know each other" games and pass out transportation information and handouts on local hotspots, such as beauty and barbershops, restaurants and other eateries, nail shops, and most importantly, worship centers of all denominations.
Breakfast With Santa
Our favorite time of the year is Christmas. This feeling is shared by all of the children of Bryan/College Station who may not have the opportunity to have a merry Christmas each year. Since 1985, Omicron Omega has been meeting this felt need to share with the children in our community at the Lincoln Recreational Center. We host food drives or purchase food in order to prepare a Christmas Breakfast for the children. After the tummies are full and the children have been entertained with dance, games and songs, the smiles widen on the children's faces when Santa Clause bursts through the doors with loads and loads of toys carried by his elves (members of the chapters). This program is truly a blessing each year.
HIV Program - A Night of Lovemaking
In conjunction with Brazos Valley AIDS Services, Omicron Omega provides information to minority students at Texas A&M about the increasing rate of HIV/AIDS in our age group. We have speakers who give experienced information that touches our hearts and helps us become fully aware of the epidemic. We end the program by offering free HIV/AIDS testing and contraceptives to any interested parties.
Thanksgiving Program
Thanksgiving is the time to share one's blessings with another. Starting in 2002, Omicron Omega and Beta Xi Chi Multicultural Fraternity, Inc., gathered donated food from area grocers and cooked a Thanksgiving meal for the children of the Bryan/College Station area at the Lincoln Recreational Center. During the week of our program, members of both organizations attended the after-school program to help the children make decorations for the event. We helped the children understand that giving is always better than receiving.
Winter KAOS (Kappa, Alpha, Omega, Sigma)
Omicron Omega is a strong advocate of co-programming with our fellow NPHC organizations. Each year since Mu Line ran the yard, we co-program an event the first weekend in December with the Nu Alpha Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, the Pi Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, the Nu Delta Delta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi and the Alpha Lambda Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma. These programs include, but are not limited to, bible studies, skate parties, tours of Winter Wonderland, movie nights, and Breakfast With Santa.
Hanging On the Yard With the Deltas
During the Southwestern Black Student Leadership Conference at Texas A&M, Omicron Omega is hospitable. In 2003, we set-up a DJ booth and provided food and snacks for conference participants. This allows participants to chill after a long morning of attending plenary sessions. In 2003, the theme was Freestyle Saturday. The event included a freestyle contest and free entry of the winner into the Conference after-party. In 2004, the theme was Throw Back Style, which included snacks like pickles, kool-aide, and ring pops. Sorors wore throwback jerseys, piece-and-chains, and baseball hats. In the past, the Chapter has also hosted a reception for Sorors who attended the Conference.
Bible Study
Implemented by Iota Line, Omicron Omega holds a bi-monthly bible study on-campus for the students of Texas A&M. This program gives students the opportunity to hear speakers from the Bryan/College Station area churches. We learn the lessons of life, failure and success through the word.Bible RetreatImplemented by members of Xi Line, each year Omicron Omega holds a retreat full of learning of God's Word. We hold workshops conducted by area ministers and students. The night ends with an open discussion flowing from one's heart.
Black History Academic Bowl
In 2003, Omicron Omega began celebrating Black History Month by giving a scholarship to three Texas A&M students. Applications vary from black history tests to essay questions. Once students are selected, they participate in an Academic Quiz Bowl. The bowl categories have included inventors, entertainment, sports, and leaders. There is also an array of black talent at the bowl, ranging from commercials done by Omicron Omega, to steps, poetry, song and dance performed by Texas A&M students.
Love & Sisterhood Conference
Implemented by Lambda Line, Omicron Omega hosts an annual Conference held for the young ladies of the Texas A&M or Bryan/College Station community. We invite speakers, usually members of Delta Sigma Theta from across Texas, to enlighten participants of the importance of sisterhood. The conference includes breakfast, icebreakers, workshops, lunch, entertainment, and group interaction amongst a diverse group of young ladies.
Delta Playday
It's the end of the semester and it is time to have some fun. In 1985, Omicron Omega began ending our year with a blast. Initially, Playday was conceived as a picnic fun day for the African-American student body at Texas A&M. The students played field games such as tug-a-war, balloon toss, one-legged race, spades and dominoes while enjoying bbq and listening to the dj spinning records. This was a way for the Chapter to show our appreciation to the student body for their support of our programs throughout the year. In addition, it was a way for students to have fun before finals. Lambda Line transformed the event to provide an opportunity for children and youth in the community to enjoy the weather and have some fun. We bring out a DJ to create the tunes for the event and we serve food to all who come. Party Time rental comes out with moon walks, sumo wrestler uniforms and many more games to make you feel young at heart.
Krimson & Kreme Ball
Implemented by Xi line, Omicron Omega in conjunction with the Nu Alpha chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., co-hosted a ball for all to show their best and definitely impress. The night included a buffet, a live band, and most of all a night for collegiates to have fun the grown and sexy way.
Mr. 1913 Philanthropy Pageant
A dream of Xi line, the Mr. 1913 Philanthropy Pageant is unlike any other pageant. The contestants are judged on their community service and fundraising for a philanthropy of their choice. During the pageant, the contestants give a presentation of the work they have done selflessly in the Bryan/College Station community. All proceeds will be given the International Awareness and Involvement Thrust: South Africa.
